Mr. Bernhard Schlagheck is appointed as the new ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Pakistan. He took the charge of the German mission in Pakistan in August 2019. Mr. Bernhard is the successor of the most popular German ambassador to Pakistan ‘Martin Kobler’. I think every Pakistani knows Mr. Martin Kobler. He was a very energetic and popular German ambassador in Pakistan.
Mr. Bernhard Schlagheck was born in 1956 in Mรถnchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. He worked on several posts and represent Germany in different countries from 1991 to 2019. He was the ambassador to the German embassy Abuja, Nigeria from 2016 to 2019 before appointing to Pakistan.
It will be a challenge but we hope that Mr. Bernhard will keep the momentum set by the previous ambassador. He will remain active and culture friendly same like Mr. Martin Kobler. We are also hopeful that Mr. Bernhard will bring a friendly relationship between Germany and Pakistan to new heights.
Mr. Martin Kobler did a fantastic job to promote German higher education in Pakistan. He also took high interest to resolve the problems of the students who want to study in Germany. But students are still facing huge problems because of the appointment system of the German embassy. We are hoping that Mr. Bernhard will give attention to this issue and make the appointment system more fast and convenient.
The process of a job search visa is very difficult as well for Pakistanis. We are also expecting that the new ambassador will make a job search visa easy and accessible for Pakistanis which will ultimately allow skilled Pakistani youth to access the German job market.
