In a significant move to combat illegal internet providers. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has joined forces with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to conduct raids in various parts of the country. The recent crackdowns in Daharki, District Ghotki, and Johar Town, Lahore have resulted in the closure of illegal operations, confiscation of equipment, and arrests of individuals involved in the illicit activities.
The PTA, in its pursuit to eliminate illegal internet provision, has made commendable progress in Punjab and Sindh. The raids conducted in Daharki and Johar Town have yielded significant outcomes. Signaling a strong message to those engaged in unauthorized practices.
During the operation in Ghotki, the illegal internet service provider’s office located at Zafar Bazar Road was successfully targeted. Although arrests were not made, PTA seized all equipment, ensuring that the illegal operation was effectively halted. Simultaneously, in Johar Town, Lahore, two arrests were made, and essential equipment such as switches and routers were confiscated. Both ISP offices were promptly sealed off. And the FIA is now conducting a thorough investigation in accordance with the law.
The PTA attributes the success of these crackdowns to its uncompromising devotion, persistent monitoring, and active actions. It highlights that such illegal business techniques adversely affect the country’s financial health by reducing tax revenues. To protect users from falling victim to these unlawful providers. The PTA urges the public to choose internet services solely from the list of PTA-licensed operators, conveniently available on the official PTA website.
The PTA’s proactive measures against illegal internet service providers serve as a stern warning to others engaged in similar activities. By raising awareness about the importance of selecting licensed operators. The PTA aims to safeguard the interests of both consumers and the nation. These efforts are vital for fostering a secure and regulated digital environment. An environment that supports Pakistan’s economic growth and upholds the rule of law.
As the PTA continues its relentless crackdown on illegal internet providers, it sends a clear message that any attempts to undermine the legal framework will be met with decisive action.
