Pakistan has made the decision to eliminate regulatory duties on mobile phone imports, bringing great news for mobile phone enthusiasts. The Pakistani government has taken this step to provide relief to consumers who have been dealing with higher prices over the past few months. As a result, the prices of imported mobile phones have dropped by at least 20% to 25%, making them more affordable for the average consumer.
Mr. Rizwan Irfan, the President of the Electronic Dealers Association Karachi, has confirmed that the removal of Government regulatory duties has led to a 20% to 25% decrease in the prices of imported mobile phones. This means that a mobile phone that previously cost Rs 40,000 is now available for Rs 30,000.
The government has abolished the regulatory tax, which was initially imposed to restrict mobiles, cars, and other imports in Pakistan. However, this measure did not significantly reduce imports, and it had a severe impact on local businesses.
The Tariff Policy Board said “no” to extending regulatory tax that would put extra taxes on imported things like mobile phones and cars. This allowed the tax on mobile phones to be lowered after a certain time.
The government has also decreased duty tax on a variety of other goods, including new and used cars, meat, home appliances, footwear, animal food, ice cream, and furniture. This reduction will also benefit different models of imported cars with different engine capacities that have been stuck at the Karachi port due to a lack of foreign currency availability.
