Pekka Lundmark, Chief Executive of Nokia, announced on February 26, 2023, that Nokia will be changing its brand identity by changing its logo. With this rebranding, Nokia wants to become a technology focus company rather than a mobile phone company. This rebranding is part of Nokia’s three-phase plan which involves resetting, accelerating, and scaling. Resetting is done and now the company will focus on the next phase which is accelerating.
Nokia changed its iconic logo for the first time in the last 60 years. The previous logo was a letter mark with simple alphabets ‘Nokia’ but the new logo has five modern geometrical shapes that make the word Nokia. This new logo gives a modern look and it will not only restrict to one color like the old logo but adopt different colors according to the situation.
CEO of Nokia said at Barcelona Mobile World Congress (MWC) that Nokia is no more only a smartphone company. Instead, it is now a technology company that will also focus on providing technological equipment for automation and telecom such as 5G technology. He said that Nokia will now focus on many other areas as well which will improve the telecom sector and industry digitalization.
To reflect this change, Nokia is already working on many other technology areas. For example, Nokia also starts working on the next generation 6G technology. This next-generation technology will completely change the whole world.
People normally think that Nokia only manufactures smartphones but it’s not true. Nokia also works in several other areas, especially in networking. This rebranding of Nokia is a plan to change this thinking. Now people will understand that Nokia is not only a smartphone company but also a technology innovation company.
Changing of logo and brand strategy doesn’t mean that Nokia smartphones will stop coming into the market. Nokia smartphones will continue to come into the market with their old iconic logo. The new logo will only separate the smartphone business from its research and technology business.
Nokia’s smartphone business is not a direct part of Nokia’s core business. Its right is currently acquired by HMD Global which makes Nokia smartphones and tablets in their own way and launched in the market. Nokia’s C-Series, G-Series, and X-Series are already present in the market. These smartphones are extremely good-looking and reliable but easily available in the Pakistani market.
Nokia is still a very likely mobile brand in Pakistan because of its durability but Nokia smartphones are not present in Pakistan as in the past. In our opinion, if Nokia launches its smartphones officially in Pakistan and provides warranty and after-sale services like they were doing in the past then it can again capture a huge market.
